Hikes

  • Healdsburg Ridge Open Space: Try this 2-mile loop with easy hills and great views of vineyards, mountains, and the river
  • Riverfront Regional Park: A flat alternative to the hike above is this scenic 2-mile loop around a pond that starts at a beautiful grove of giant redwoods, with picnic tables & bathrooms
  • Lake Sonoma: You'll find lots of fun longer trails to choose from at this beautiful spot
  • Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve: This spot offers a very short and kid-friendly hike under towering redwoods in this mini Muir Woods (no dogs)
  • Annadel State Park: This off-the-radar state park in nearby Santa Rosa has an extensive trail system with great views
  • Kortum Trail (Sonoma Coast State Park): Drive out to the coast and be rewarded with a breathtaking ocean view hike (no dogs)

Horseback Rides

Bike Rides & Tours

  • Bike Rental: Rent road, mountain and even electric bikes, or join a guided tour from our friends at Getaway Adventures
  • Road Biking Routes: Two routes we can share are in the Alexander Valley (25-mile route) and in the Dry Creek Valley (25-mile route)
  • Party Bike Tours: Every seen those giant party bikes where 14 people all pedal at once? Well, you should, and Bike Healdsburg can get your group bar-hopping and wine-tasting around Healdsburg. Guests tell us it was a highlight of their stay. And, they give Wildhaven guests 10% with code: WILDBIKE10
  • Biking from Wildhaven: The beautiful Alexander Valley offers 30+ wineries to visit. Biking from our property is dangerous and only advised for more experienced riders due to highway speeds and little-to-no road shoulders

Fishing

  • At Wildhaven: Depending on the season, you can wade a few minutes up or downstream to find smallmouth bass, catfish, and trout. We recommend getting gear and licenses at the Ace Hardware in town

Picnic Spots

  • Lake Sonoma: We'll let you in on a picnic spot so good, it's hard to believe. And hardly any tourists find it. It's the Lake Sonoma Overlook, just a 20-minute, very scenic drive from us. The view is spectacular. Is has benches, a bathroom, and some shaded areas. We like to bring a blanket and make camp on the top of the 2-story wooden platform with perfect 360-degree views of the lake, mountains, and vineyards. One of Wildhaven's owners even proposed to his wife at this spot. :)

WINE TASTING

There are 425 tasting rooms in the county, and 200 within 20 minutes of your tent.

View our Wine Tasting page to see our partner wineries and discounts for Wildhaven guests.

Other Favorites by Category:

  • Family-Friendly: The Coppola Family Winery (8 mins away) is the clear winner here, with its pool, film museum (yes, that Coppola), and even a restaurant with kids menu. Also check out picnic-friendly Stuhlmuller Vineyards, just 2 miles away, down a quiet country road (great for bikes)
  • Valley Views: Check out the unbeatable views of Dry Creek Valley from the patios at Trattore and Sbragia
  • Tasty Food Pairings: Williamson is our hands-down favorite when it comes to food pairings. They employ 7 chefs who whip up exquisite and unique pairings served in a fun, communal tasting room.
  • Beautiful Grounds: Ferrari-Carano Winery is probably the gold standard for gorgeous grounds between their Tuscan-style villa and their colorful gardens with meandering paths, foot bridges, fish pond, and stream
  • Wine Caves: These add a fun, educational dimension to your tastings, and we like the impressive ones at Alexander Valley Vineyards and Bella Winery
  • Healdsburg Plaza: Lace up your walking shoes and get ready for some people-watching. We’d recommend stopping by Williamson Wines (check out their happy hour) and Portalupi (unique California-Italian styles wines), for starters
  • Fun With Bubbles: We’d recommend visiting the Korbel Winery in the Russian River Valley to experience a festive and detailed bubbly tasting. Plus, you get a very scenic drive down Eastside road through gorgeous vineyards
  • Mendocino County: Looking to broaden your wine-tasting palette beyond Sonoma County? We’d recommend driving just 1 hour north to discover amazing wines and 30 tasting rooms in the Anderson Valley.

DINING

These are our favorite spots with sunshine and outdoor seating.

  • Bravas: It's hard to beat the large but quaint backyard patio at this tasty spot for tapas and cocktails
  • Lo & Behold: We also like the back patio at this relatively new spot with an eclectic and unique food and drink offering
  • Wili's: For seafood and other tasty treats, we like dining in their front patio and watching the world go by
  • Kinsmoke: Enjoy the people watching at this delicious BBQ spot's outdoor patio or take it to go and picnic in the plaza directly across the street
  • Roof 106: Venture upstairs to the somewhat hidden top floor of The Matheson restaurant to find a more casual indoor/outdoor restaurant with unique cocktails, a wood-fired pizza oven, and comfy outdoor furniture with views towards the plaza
  • Sushi Otoro: We recommend picking up some of their very unique and fresh rolls and returning to camp to dine on sushi by the fire, in true glamping fashion. Closed Sundays.

breweries

We love the fun outdoor patios and beer gardens at these local breweries.

  • Fogbelt: This brewery offers a very unique all-outdoors beer garden with lots of different fresh beer styles and tasty food pairings. It's family-friendly and Healdsburg's only brewery location and we love to support local. Plus, both owners grew up here. Grab a discounted tasting pass in our store
  • Henhouse: Travel a short distance to their Santa Rosa tasting room to sample some of the freshest beer in Sonoma County. Grab a discounted tasting pass in our store
  • Russian River Brewing: Make sure to swing by neighboring Windsor to sample their beers and dine at a full-service restaurant. The highlight is the giant back patio with tons of seating and space to throw down a blanket, let the kids run around, and watch the sunset (it faces west)

family fun

Here are some popular itineraries for a fun day with the little ones.

  • Plaza Activities: Pick up something fun at the Toy Chest or Copperfield's Books, then grab some Noble Folk ice cream and walk across the street to the plaza to play in the grass. Maybe there will be a live musician. Or maybe the bubble guy will show up. Either way, it's a great way to slow things down and bask in the beauty of redwood, palm, and orange trees, all in the same view
  • Wine Tasting: We'd recommend visiting Coppola Winery where your kids can be entertained by the movie museum, bocce ball courts, and a kid-friendly restaurant
  • Hiking: We recommend venturing out on one of the two kid-friendly trails listed in the Nearby Adventures section at top

Wellness

  • Yoga: If you're not able to attend one of our Saturday morning classes held on our lawn from May-Oct, please visit our friends at YogaSix in nearby Santa Rosa. They offer a wide array of classes from beginner to advanced, as well as options for power, restorative, TRX, hot yoga, and more. They share our belief that slowing down, being in the moment, and focusing on your breath is a beautiful thing for both mind and body.

Pick up a brochure in our Camp Store that mentions their offer for Wildhaven guests: First Class Free and a local 10% off any membership if you mention Wildhaven.
