GLAMPING FAQ & POLICIES

Let’s get you ready FOR glamping!

These are the most common questions we get from our first-time guests.

MOST POPULAR QUESTIONS

  • WHAT'S IN THE TENT?

Your Wildhaven tent is a safe haven when staying out in the wild. Every tent includes 1 or 2 beds, a heated mattress pad, a clothing rack, nightstands & lamps, rug, electricity, space heater & fan, and mirror. Outside the tent you’ll have a patio table & chairs on a covered deck, firepit with cooking grill, and large picnic table. Every tent has an assigned space. Most spaces are directly behind the tent. Others are 15 seconds away.

Tents in the Riverside location also have string lights on the ceiling and 2-person hammocks.

Learn more by viewing the Glamping Tents page.

  • WHAT'S IN THE CABINS?

We offer 2 cabin options. The 1-Queen Cabin sleeps 2 adults while the 1-Queen & Futon Cabin allows 1-2 children to share the convertible futon bed.

    Both options provide:

    • Cabin: Our large 180-square-foot cabins were designed to let in as much of nature's beauty as possible, with 2 windows, 2 skylights, and large all-glass doors that swing wide open like a tent flap
    • Sleeping: Fall asleep in a queen-sized bed with memory foam mattress, quality linens, comforter, and an extra blanket
    • Furnishings: The cabin includes nightstands & bedside lamps, a small bistro patio set for dining, storage and hooks for your clothes, and a large rug
    • Electric: Charge phones with bedside USB outlets or power up other devices with standard household plugs. Sorry, no high-voltage devices such as hair dryers
    • Heating & Cooling: Your well-insulated home comes with an AC unit and heater to keep you comfy all year round
    • Bathrooms & Showers: These are located a 1-minute walk away

Learn more and see photos on our Cabins page.

  • WHAT AMENITIES COME WITH OUR STAY?

Our amenities includes extra-clean bathrooms & hot showers, an outdoor kitchen with gas BBQ grills, private access to the Russian River, open spaces/views & a small trail on our 10-acre property, a camp store, complimentary coffee/tea/hot chocolate, complimentary WiFi, on-site events, and a reservable group area.

View the complete list on our Amenities page.

  • WHAT ARE THE BATHROOMS & SHOWERS LIKE?

Restrooms: Guests have access to a clean, central restroom building with flush toilets. Restrooms are a 30-60 second walk from your tent. Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights (or flashlight phone apps) to help guide their way, as we keep a dark environment to help with a sound night’s sleep.

Showers (indoor): Hot showers are provided in our beautiful new cabin-style shower building (see image on Amenities page), with hot water and extra room for changing. The building is next to our restrooms, no more than 60 seconds from any tent. Towels for the showers are provided in your tent. Please bring your own towels to use at the beach.

Showers (outdoors): Looking to rinse off quickly? Use the two outdoor showers located in the grassy area above the river. If you haven’t tried an outdoor shower yet, now’s the time!

  • WHAT ARE OUR COOKING & DINING OPTIONS?

Firepit: Every tent has one. Guests can cook using the adjustable-height grill, with wood purchased from us or brought in.

Outdoor Kitchen: Guests have access to a communal outdoor kitchen area (see image on Amenities page), which includes gas BBQs, BBQing tools, and side burners for boiling or cooking with pots/pans. Please bring your own cooking gear. Guests should bring their own trash bags and flashlights, and clean dishes in this area, which has cold/hot water, a table, sponges and soap.

Rice Cookers: Please leave these at home as their intense power usage can disrupt normal operation of electricity for our guests.

Personal Gas Stoves: Small gas stoves (example: Coleman 2-burner style) can be used outside your tent cabin on your picnic table. Gas stoves are not permitted inside any tent cabins or on your tent platform.

Food Storage: You will be sleeping among wildlife. We recommend that guests bring coolers and store food products in their vehicles—day and night—after they finish using them.  All food waste should be disposed of in the larger trash cans throughout the property--never inside your tent.

Water: It comes from our well, is treated, and is safe to drink from our communal kitchen.

Dining: Nearly every restaurant in Healdsburg (10 minutes away) has high-quality to-go meals (see list). Many guests pick up ready-to-grill items at Big John’s grocery store (closes at 7). No restaurants deliver to Wildhaven, but we have seen guests have groceries delivered via Instacart.

  • HOW DO QUIET HOURS WORK?

This is one of our most important policies at Wildhaven, as our tents and cabins are spaced 10-15 feet apart. It’s important that all guests can relax and recharge. We strictly enforce quiet hours everywhere on the property from 10pm to 8am. We are not a destination for noisy groups or parties. Even normal-voice conversations are too loud given the layout of our tents and cabins.

If you cannot talk in whisper voices after 10pm and before 8am, inside or outside your tent, Wildhaven is not the best destination for you. Please contact us with any questions, as we’d love to have you come and relax with us!

Our Camp Hosts patrol our property starting at 10pm to help with enforcement and reserve the right to ask guests to extinguish fires and move inside if deemed necessary. We want each guest to enjoy their stay, but we will ask noisy guests to leave without a refund and have a noise violation fee after repeated warnings.

  • HOW DO CANCELLATIONS WORK?

Guests wanting more security for their reservation should select the Trip Protection option (formerly known as 'Worry Free’) during online checkout (see covered reasons for canceling), or purchase trip insurance with broader ‘cancel for any reason’ coverage from companies such as Squaremouth

Below is our standard cancellation policy:

Non-Group Reservations: Cancellations can be made up to 14 days prior to your arrival date for a full refund, minus a cancellation fee of 7%. If you cancel within 14 days of your arrival, no refunds will be made.  You may make changes to your reservation, including switching dates and reducing the number of tents, up to 7 days before your arrival (by 11am PT) for no charge. Within 7 days, no changes to the reservation are allowed.

Group Reservations (10 tents or more): You must cancel 60 days in advance of your reservation date for a full refund, minus a cancellation fee of 10%. Guests must email events@wildhavensonoma.com or call 707-283-7773 by 11am PT.

Booking.com Bookings: Please cancel through Booking.com as we cannot cancel these bookings.

  • HOW DO WE ADD CHILDREN & DOGS?

    ADDING CHILDREN

Cabins: Please select the '1-Queen & Futon' cabin. 1-2 children can share the full-sized futon that converts to a bed (with linens). No extra child fee.

1-queen tents: For these tents, add 1-2 children during your online booking (on the first screen). A nightly charge is applied if children are 2 years or older ($30/child), and we will set-up cots with pillows, pillow cases, and towels before your arrival. Please bring your own sleeping bag or linens.

2-queen tents: For these tents, add up to 3 children for no nightly fee, as long as the 4-guest maximum is not exceeded. Children must sleep in beds and Wildhaven cannot add cots to these tents due to space limitations. No child fees.

Bunk Bed tents: Select this option for 2 adults and up to 4 children. Children will each have their own twin bed with linens.

All tents: We do not permit personal cots, air mattresses, or sleeping on the floor in any tent. Cribs or Pack ‘n Plays are permitted without any nightly child fees.

But…children are not allowed unless they are constantly monitored,  especially at the river and during 10pm-8am quiet hours.

    ADDING DOGS

Furry friends need fresh air too! Up to 2 well-behaved, quiet, on-leash dogs are allowed with a $30 fee (per pet, per night). Please view full Dog Policy in section below. Then, add your dog(s) on the first screen of online booking, where number of adults is entered.

  • WHAT SHOULD WE BRING & LEAVE HOME?

Bring: We'd recommend packing slippers and PJs for lounging, toiletries for the shower, warm layers for our cool nights, ear plugs for lighter sleepers (although we provide for each tent), a flashlight (or a phone app) for nighttime strolls, innertubes, sandals/camp chair/beach towel for river fun, and a cooler for drinks (we have ice). If cooking, bring any silverware/pots/pans, trash bags, and paper towels.  If you bring valuables, please lock them safely in your vehicles, and not in your tent (which do not have locks).

No: Kindly do not arrive with your own tents/RV/trailer (we cannot fit them), full-size BBQs (gas stoves are fine), air mattresses or cots, rice cookers, amplified sound devices, drones, noisy motorized toys or vehicles (e.g., small dirt bikes and scooters), or any noisy equipment that will disturb the enjoyment of other guests. CPAP machines are supported. Please, please leave your portable speakers at home and enjoy the sounds of nature—it’s not fair to require other guests to listen to your music.

  • HOW DO WE STAY WARM ON COLDER NIGHTS?

Every tent has a queen bed with a dual-zone heated mattress pad. When combined with our linens, comforters, blankets, and space heaters, they keep our guests comfortable on chilly nights.

Cabins in in-wall heaters and stronger insulation than the tents, which keep them nice and cozy all year long.

Guests visiting us from November to February tell us they love the feeling of being in a toasty bed when the temps drop at night, and often return home to purchase their own heated mattress pads.

IMPORTANT POLICIES

  • QUIET HOURS

This is one of our most important policies at Wildhaven, as our tents and cabins are spaced 10-15 feet apart. It’s important that all guests can relax and recharge. We strictly enforce quiet hours everywhere on the property from 10pm to 8am. We are not a destination for noisy groups or parties. Even normal-voice conversations are too loud given the property layout.

If you cannot talk in whisper voices after 10pm and before 8am, inside or outside your tent or cabin, Wildhaven is not the best destination for you.

  • CHILDREN

Children love exploring our 10 acres of riverfront property and can benefit from more fresh air in their lives and a break from technology.

For their safety and the relaxation of other guests, children are not allowed unless they are constantly monitored. This is especially true near the river (which can have unpredictable depths and currents) and during the 10pm-8am quiet hours.

  • DOGS

    Wildhaven dog policy:

    • Guests must add dogs to their online booking (first screen, where # of adults are entered). A dog fee of $30 per pet, per night is applied automatically. Please contact us if you need to add dog(s) after you complete your booking.

    • Maximum 2 dogs that are at least 1 year old

     • Well-behaved & quiet (no excessive barking will be tolerated), with no history of aggressive behavior

     • Always kept on leash and never left alone

     • Dog waste must be cleaned up, and disposed of, immediately in the large wine-barrel trash cans throughout the property

     • Dogs are never allowed on the beds. NOTE: We will automatically apply extra cleaning fees if we find pet hair on the linens

     • Towels, linens, and blankets cannot be used for dog bedding or to clean your dog (please bring a dog bed). Per County guidelines, dogs may not be cleaned inside any bathroom or shower

     • Dogs and their owners may be asked to leave without a refund if they cannot abide by these rules. Dog owners will be sent photos of any damaged linens, furnishings, or other tent materials that result from their dog’s behavior and automatically charged for extra cleaning, repairs, and item replacement.

  • SMOKING

Wildhaven Sonoma is a non-smoking property due to our high fire risk. Guests who smoke in tents or on tent platforms will be automatically charged a minimum $300 cleaning fee to properly remove, clean, and replace all furnishings and tent materials (especially our high-grade mold-resistant canvas) and will be prevented from booking a future stay. Smoking includes cigarettes, cigars, cannabis, and e-cigarettes.

Outdoor Kitchen: Guests have access to a communal outdoor kitchen area (see image on Amenities page), which includes gas BBQs, BBQing tools, and side burners for boiling or cooking with pots/pans. Please bring your own cooking gear. Guests using this option are required to clean the area when done and leave it “crumb clean” to discourage wildlife from entering the property.  Guests should bring their own trash bags and flashlights, and clean dishes in this area, which has running cold/hot water, a table, sponges and soap.

Rice Cookers: Please leave these at home as their intense power usage can disrupt normal operation of electricity for our guests.

Personal Gas Stoves: Small gas stoves (example: Coleman 2-burner style) can be used outside your tent cabin on your picnic table. Gas stoves are not permitted inside any tents/cabins or on your front deck.

Food Storage: You will be sleeping among wildlife. We recommend that guests bring coolers and store food products in their vehicles—day and night—after they finish using them.  All food waste should be disposed of in the larger trash cans throughout the property and never in the smaller waste baskets inside your tent/cabin.

Water: It comes from our well, is treated, and is safe to drink.

  • FIRES

All tents have fire pits. Guests can purchase a firewood bundle (with matches and fire starting materials) while making their online reservation or during hours for check-in (3-7) or the store (9-6).

Safety: Absolutely no fires are permitted without a fire pit. Please do not bring your own fire pit. Fires must be constantly monitored and properly extinguished with water. Extinguishers are available in each tent cabin in case of emergency.  Also, Wildhaven Staff reserves the right to shut down all fire pits from guest usage due to safety reasons, such as high wind or extra-dry conditions. Absolutely no fireworks.

  • PROPERTY LAYOUT

We’re often asked how close everything is on our property. Short answer: everything’s easily accessible.

Tents & Cabins: All accommodations at Wildhaven are 10-15 feet apart from each other. Riverside tents are in the front row, closer to the river access, with no parked cars or tents blocking the view. Premium tents are in the next row, while Standard tens are in the back row. Rows are 30 feet apart.

Tent/Cabin Location Requests: We will try our best to place you as close as possible to friends or others in your reservation - please use the Reservation Requests box to leave a note during checkout, or email after. You will never be more than a 90-second walk from another tent/cabin.

Parking: Every tent/cabin has an assigned space. Most spaces are directly behind the tent. Others are 15 seconds away.

Bathrooms & Showers: No more than a 1-minute walk from the furthest spot.

Communal BBQs and Dish Washing Station: Located a few steps from the restroom building and showers.

River Access: Our main river access is 20 seconds from our closest tent and around 60 seconds from our furthest. No tents are directly on the river.

  • NOISE EXPECTATIONS

Given that all tents and cabins are 10-15 feet apart, you will likely hear noises from other guests during your stay. We use on-site staff and a 24/7 phone number for guests to help enforce our 10p-8a quiet hours, but occasionally you might hear a disruptive guest before we can quiet them down.

Additionally, Wildhaven is located on a popular road into the famous Alexander Valley wine-growing region. You will likely hear some road noise during the day and even night (depending on how light you sleep).  Guests visiting in the Oct/Nov wine harvesting season and Mar/Apr 'bud break' season may also hear sounds from occasional nighttime operations in the neighboring vineyards (example: fans to prevent frost from damaging the vines). Our goal is to provide a restful stay, so we supply ear plugs in each tent and cabin for our lighter-sleeping guests. We recommend that lighter sleepers book a cabin versus a tent for added sound insulation.

  • WIFI & CELL COVERAGE

WiFi: We provide complimentary service to all guests. We’re trying to help you disconnect as best as possible.  It’s not strong enough for streaming or Zoom calls, but enough to check in with loved ones or share a pic online. It is strongest closest to our reception building.

Mobile:  Cell coverage is good considering our more rural location. T-Mobile has a 5G tower close by that can provide 50+ megs/sec. AT&T is also strong, while Verizon usually has 1-2 bars. We encourage guests to use their hot spots to provide faster Internet connections.

Phone: Guests can call the front desk at 707-283-7773 with questions between 9am and 6pm. Your tent includes a hand-out with our 24/7 emergency number as well.

  • CAMP STORE WITH WINE & BEER

Our store is stocked with local food and drinks Please check the current hours of operation at the check-in kiosk or by calling 707-283-7773 between 9 and 6:30pm, 7 days a week.

     Guests can purchase:

    • Local wine, champagne, beer & canned cocktails

    • Water, teas, and juices

    • Chips, popcorn, crackers, chocolate, olives, and other picnic snacks

    • Local cheeses, salami and prosciutto

    • Firewood bundles and ice

    • DIY s’mores kit to make 8 treats. Contains marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate bars, and roasting sticks

    • Ice cream from Bay Area favorite Naia

For additional items, we recommend visiting Big John’s Market or Safeway, both less than 10 minutes away.

Guests can also disconnect further by checking out our favorite classic board games such as Life, Clue, Battleship, and Uno.

  • WILDLIFE

We have seen deer, geese, great blue herons, turtles, lizards, osprey, turkeys, owls, bald eagles, and even river otters frolicking at the bottom of our river steps. Please be aware that you will be staying in a natural environment with birds, insects, squirrels, an occasional snake, etc., and may see these natural residents.

  • COFFEE, TEA, & HOT CHOCOLATE

Wander over to the Wildhaven store each morning from 8-11 for complimentary coffee, tea, and Ghirardelli hot chocolate.

On Property: Past events have included yoga by the river, acoustic music around the campfire, stargazing with giant telescopes, wine tasting, and guided nature therapy walks along the river.

Nearby: Past events have included wine tasting weekends, 5K races, Healdsburg festivals, parades, car shows, and even a baby goat cuddling event in Petaluma.

  • RAINY DAYS

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered in case a sprinkle or storm rolls through the Alexander Valley.

Here’s our plan to keep you dry and entertained:

Tent: You'll stay dry in your waterproof tent, which has an extra rain fly on top, and a covered front deck with patio furniture for watching the drops fall

Cabin: Similar to our tents, your cabin was designed to keep you very dry even in a heavy rainstorm

Common Areas: You have access to an 800-square-foot event tent if you'd like another location to hang out. Our outdoor kitchen area is also covered from the rain

Books & Games: Don't forget to pack some books, board games, and cards. You can also borrow a few of our favorite childhood games, such as Connect Four, Uno, and Battleship

Downloads: Don't forget to download movies or podcasts before you go. Our wifi is not strong enough for streaming

Drink: Tastings are often more fun in the rain. We recommend visiting nearby Healdsburg wineries, the Alley 6 Distillery just 7 minutes away, Golden State Cider in Sebastopol, and lots of nearby breweries.

Dine: Just 10 minutes from Wildhaven you'll find lots of places to dine, from taco shops to tapas to a new Michelin-star restaurant

Shop: After you drink and dine, you can continue to stay dry by visiting our local clothing shops, 2 great bookstores, 10+ art galleries, a fun toy store, several giant antique shops, and even the free Coppola movie museum in Geyserville

  • HIKING TRAILS

We recommend two hiking loops in Healdsburg: Healdsburg Ridge Open Space (esp. this loop) and Riverfront Regional Park (esp. this loop).

There are no official trails on Wildhaven, but we do recommend an informal 5 min. trail upstream from our river steps that takes visitors to lesser-visited beach and waterfront areas.

If you’re willing to drive further (~ an hour), we recommend trails near Jenner (Kortum Trail, and the Jenner Headlands Preserve).

  • BIKING

Please visit the Biking section on our Activities page to see the options for road bikes and cruiser/family biking.
